Mauritania's President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz at a ceremony
which held at the Union's secretariat in Addis Abbaba, Ethiopia this
morning.

Presidency, PDP planning to scuttle polls- APC

Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation has
raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the Peoples Democratic
Party and the President Jonathan-led government, to scuttle the
2015 general elections.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director, Media and
Publicity of the campaign, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, on
Thursday.
Shehu disclosed that the APC had it on good authority that the
kernel of the plan was to use the subterfuge of the frivolous
litigation by some people to get a court pronouncement to disqualify
the APC candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
According to him, the PDP was seeking to build a case to the effect
that Buhari lied under oath in saying that the military had his
certificate, whereas the military had denied being in possession of
the document.
Shehu revealed that the counter-arguments by the APC’s
candidate’s counsel would not matter because a particular Federal
High judge had been prepared to do the hatchet job.
The APC noted that it was the PDP’s calculation that this wicked
pronouncement of disqualification of the APC candidate would
precipitate spontaneous violent protests across the country.
Shehu said this scenario would then make President Goodluck
Jonathan, the PDP candidate in the 2015 general election, to declare
a six-month state of emergency across the land.
He alleged that the three-week long strike by the Judiciary Staff
Union of Nigeria was embarked upon on the prodding of the PDP-
led Federal Government as a way to stymie any higher court from
upturning the lower court pronouncement which ruled on President
Jonathan’s eligibility to contest the February 14 election.
Similarly, the APC campaign organisation said the same trade union
had been encouraged to open the court to allow for this court
pronouncement in disqualifying Buhari from contesting the election.
The APC campaign organisation said, “We are aware of the intense
desperation of the PDP-led Federal Government of Dr. Goodluck
Jonathan in desiring to retain political power at all costs despite his
and his party’s overwhelming rejection by the Nigerian people,
ahead of the 2015 general elections.
“We have brought this wicked plot of the PDP-led government to
the attention of Nigerians, from whom any government derives its
legitimacy. Nigeria cannot be thrown into chaos because of the
selfish and callous desire of a tiny cabal to goad the Nigerian
people into its destructive path.
“The governance of the Nigerian people by any person or group of
persons must have the assent of the Nigerian people.”
The APC campaign organisation called on the international
community to prevail on this obviously agitated Presidency not to
plunge the Nigerian state into avoidable and intractable crisis.
But in response, the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation
slammed the APC for allegedly whipping up sentiments and inciting
violence ahead of the scheduled February 14 and 28 general
elections.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the PDPPCO, Chief Femi
Fani-Kayode, said this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.
He also alleged that the APC’s penchant for propaganda and threat
of violence was mind-boggling.
Fani-Kayode said there was no iota of truth in the claims by the
opposition that the PDP and the Presidency were planning to impose
a state of emergency and postpone the elections.
He said, “We are not, at all, surprised about the false alarm raised
by the APC that the PDP-controlled Federal Government is planning
to declare a six-month state of emergency across the land. It is
characteristic of the opposition to make spurious allegations in the
build-up to the scheduled February general elections.
“The APC’s penchant for propaganda and threat of violence is
mind-boggling. The narrative weaved together by the opposition
party is disingenuous and it shows how desperate it has become in
its impossible bid to dislodge the PDP-controlled Federal
Government.
“It is clear that the APC now knows full well that a crushing defeat
awaits it at the February 14 presidential election; otherwise why
would it embark on this flight of illusion about a purported plot by
the PDP to precipitate violence prelude to the declaration of a state
of emergency?
“We state categorically that the PDP is ready for the February 14
presidential election and all subsequent elections; and is therefore
not a party to any imagined ploy to postpone or cancel the
election.”

PDP steals N100 from every litre of kerosene-Oshiomhole

Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday accused the Peoples
Democratic Party-led Federal Government of duping Nigerians by
selling kerosene N150 per litre instead of N50.
Oshiomhole, who said this while receiving defectors from the PDP to
the All Progressives Congress in Benin, the Edo State capital, also
said that Nigerians had been suffering since the PDP assumed
power 16 years ago.
This, he said, was because of the PDP’s dedication “to preserve the
privileges of the few.”
Oshiomhole said the Federal Government had been doing this by not
allowing the masses to enjoy the benefits of the natural resources
bestowed on the country by God through shady subsidy deals on
petroleum products.
The governor said, “The man who has a shop must close by 6 pm.
If he operates beyond 6pm, he must put on a generator, and buy
petrol or diesel. For 16 years, the PDP can’t give us light. But if
they leave us in peace even in the dark, it will be bad enough but for
them, that is not bad enough.”
“From Otuoke to Benin City, to Lagos, to Ekpoma, to Iyahmo, to
Sokoto, kerosene is now between N150 and N160 per litre. For every
N150 you spend in buying a litre of kerosene, the PDP steals N100
because in the books of the NNPC, they have it on records that
kerosene is N50 per litre.”
Oshiomhole also commended the quality of the defectors, who he
described as knowledgeable.
He said, “Today is not just the fact of the huge number in this hall
but it is also about the quality of the brains that have now join us;
and in a world that is knowledge-driven, it is only the party that can
parade the best brains that can drive the sustainable change that
Nigeria is currently battling with in order to bail our country from its
present political quagmire.”
The governor also likened the ruling party to “an impotent man.”

Boy attacked by dogs returns from India

Omonigho Abraham, the four year old boy who was attacked by dogs
in the Igando area of Lagos State, has returned into the country from
an India medical trip.
Omonigho returned into Nigeria on Thursday in company with his
father, Odia, and mother, Helen, who went with him on the trip.
The boy was attacked by two dogs on October 7, 2014 in their house on Adegboyega Street, Akesan
Estate.
Omonigho was playing with his two
brothers, Osemudiamen and Bobby, when the dogs, owned by their
landlord, pursued them.
While the others escaped because they were older, the dogs
reportedly bite off the scalp of the victim and dragged him around.
It was said policemen and residents who came around could not
rescue him until his mother arrived at the scene and fought off the
dogs.
His stay at the Lagos State
University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, was marred by complaints of
neglect and at a point, his father raised the alarm that Omonigho’s
condition had worsened.
In December, Odia announced that the Delta State Government and
a non-governmental organisation, Global Initiative for Peace, Love
and Care had concluded plans to fly him to India.
An alternative plan by the Lagos State Government was turned down
by the victim’s family, who said the India travel plan had been
concluded.
The four-year-old departed for India on November 28, 2014 despite
concerns by the Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Mr. Jide Idris,
that his condition was delicate and needed special attention.
While they were still in India, the mother said there were improvements in
her son’s condition.
She added that the family would be arriving Lagos on Thursday.
We learnt from his father, Odia, on Thursday that the
family finally arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport
around 2pm.
He said, “We touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International
Airport around 2pm. We are on our way home now.
“The doctors in India have completed their job. My boy is back to
normal. I thank God that everything is okay.”
He appreciated the efforts of the Delta State Government, the NGO
and the media for the attention given to his son.
He also acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government
during his admission in LASUTH.

YobeGovernor declares 24hr curfew following terrorist attacks

The Governor of Yobe state, Ibrahim Gaidam has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the capital, Damaturu following an attack by Boko Haram terrorists.

The insurgents attacked the town at about 6am on Monday, December 1, causing residents to flee for their lives.

Gaidam announced the curfew via a statement released by his Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information, Abdullahi Bego.

According to the statement the decision to impose a curfew was “taken in consultation with heads of law enforcement agencies in the State as part of measures to enable the security agents, who did a great job yesterday of repelling insurgent attacks on the town, to conclude their ongoing assignment.”

“His Excellency Governor Gaidam has expressed his appreciation to the residents of the State Capital, and to people all across the State, for their support and cooperation with security agents," while urging the "people to continue to support the security efforts and to pray to Almighty Allah (SWT) for the return of peace and security,” the statement added.
