Wilben Kende, has been arrested by the men of the
Ogun State Police Command.
The police said Kende, whose accomplice, Woti Usa, was still at large, specialised in snatching motorcycles from their owners in the Owode area. He was said to have been arrested on November 5, at the Oke Irinja area, Owode Yewa, after snatching a motorcycle from one Gbadebo Taiwo, a commercial okada rider, at gunpoint.
It was learnt that Taiwo was hired by Kende and his accomplice to take them to Ago Baba, but on the way he (Kende) deliberately dropped off one of his slippers.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna
Okoye, Kende then told Taiwo to stop.
“It was at this point he brought a loaded locally-made
pistol and pointed it at Taiwo and snatched his
motorcycle,” he added.
While being paraded on Monday, Kende confessed to
the crime, but said the pistol found on him belonged
to his accomplice. Also arrested by the police were two friends, Fidelis Sunday and Okechukwu Ibie, who were alleged to have robbed one Eghosa Omofonmuvan, a driver of a DAF truck loaded with electronics heading for
Onitsha at the J4 area of Benin-Shagamu Expressway,
Ogbere and diverted goods worth N3.1m to other
places.
Sunday and Ibie denied robbing anyone, but however
could not say what they had gone to do at the Ogbere
area. The fourth suspect that was paraded was one Afolabi
Hassan, a dismissed captain from the army. He was arrested for impersonation.
Okoye added that as the 2015 general elections were
fast approaching, the command would not tolerate any form breach of peace or criminality. He urged politicians, groups or individuals who were in possession of illegal arms and ammunition to come forward and turn them in to the police within 14 days or face the wrath of the law.
The police boss also warned those who drive
unregistered cars or ride unregistered motorcycles
to desist from such.
