The Governor of Nasarawa state, Umaru Tanko Al-
Makura has imposed a curfew on the state capital,
Lafia after violent protests broke out on Monday,
November 17.
According to the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary,
Yakubu Lamai the curfew will be in force from 6p.m.
to 6a.m.
“What we mean is that people can move in their own
areas but should not cross over to other areas that
are not theirs and this is only applicable to Lafia the
state capital alone,” Lamai said.
Rival youth groups, Ombatse and Eggon were said to
have clashed in the capital leaving at least one
person dead. The violence has reportedly left the Lafia metropolis deserted as frightened residents have chosen to stay in their homes to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
