The Delta State Police Command on Friday said a suspected armed
robber, who along with three of his colleagues, forced a victim to
withdraw money for them at gunpoint at an ATM point, has died as
a result of injuries he sustained in a gun duel with the police.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu, said
the deceased, Mudiaga Ajuwe, and his gang, had forced one Oyeh
Happy at Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area, to an ATM
machine where they compelled him to withdraw the sum of N27,000
for them from his account.
She said the victim had immediately afterwards alerted a nearby
police patrol team from Agbarho Division, which gave the robbers a
chase.
“The patrol men pursued the armed robbers. On sighting the
policemen, the hoodlums opened fire on them. In the process, one of
the hoodlums, identified as Mudiaga Ajuwe, was shot and arrested
while others escaped.
“However, the injured suspect died on the way to the hospital. Items
recovered from the deceased include one cut to size single barrel
gun with four cartridges,” the PPRO said.
She added that the police were on the trail of the fleeing criminals.
